Cry Terror! The Brothers Karamazov

Cry Terror! (1958), dir. Andrew L. Stone

Some time ago I watched the movie Ring of Fire (1961), directed by Andrew L. Stone 's - this film is so obscure that even he is not on FilmWebie. But this film not only exists, but it is quite successful action movie with spectacular as the culmination of a disaster. It starts as a banal thriller, but the action goes in unexpected directions. One careless decision involves a large fire, which can not be extinguished. And all this is surprisingly well done and keeps you in suspense, especially at the end.

So when I saw that the director Cry Terror! is the same man that I decided to watch, expecting an excellent and full tension of the film. I was not disappointed, although it is a completely different movie. There is no spectacular action scenes, but instead is holding in the continuing story of suspense thriller in the style of noir. Last classic films that stream is formed in the late '50s, but the film Andrew L. Stone 'and it does not stop a certain stage, it starts a new chapter in the history of action cinema. I would venture to say that the film Cry Terror! had a major impact on contemporary films about the kidnapping and terrorist thriller subgenre known.

James Mason coped well with the role of husband and father, who built a bomb and ... have imagined that he would have problems on the ground. Rod Steiger is convincing in the role of nervous and hot-tempered terrorist. Surprise is the superb creation Inger Stevens, a little-known and underestimated actress who fell into a great figure of a woman, fearing for her child, but capable of to fight for them, keeping a cool head and common sense. In the background stood out and Neville Brand as a rapist, which is just waiting to be alone with a woman, and Angie Dickinson in the role of femme fatale - a woman who looks nice, but it has an ugly character.

However, what makes a great movie watching is a thoughtful script and efficient direction. Of course, the acting helped too much because, for example in that the early reviews, the film Ring of Fire acting was poor and the sometimes decreased the tension, the film Cry Terror! no longer have this problem, the actors are playing with more commitment. Maybe sometimes the film lacks logic, but it did not pay attention, because in the movies thriller is not the point. It is undoubtedly true classic. It is worth it to recommend the more that it is a little-known film. Also pay attention to the very popular art director, Andrew L. Stone 's, whose best films, but this thriller Cry Terror! , are nominated for an Oscar for special effects pioneer catastrophic drama The Last Voyage (1960) and 'camp' war film The Password Is Courage (1962).
