Leche Ideas Cartón Traje De Disfraces ...?

20 of the best Polish films

The blog generally avoided writing about the Polish films, and I decided to make up for a comprehensive a note on the Polish cinema. From time to time I happen to find a good Polish movie and have seen them already so many to choose the best 20-tuple. Comparison is subjective and can be found in the films of different genres: dramas and comedies, war films and historical, moral and criminal. Chronological order, from the 50s to the present.

first Channel (1956), dir. Andrzej Wajda, Jerzy Stefan
Stawinski was a participant in the Warsaw uprising, and later became one of the greatest Polish writers. His original and realistic screenplay, written for the film by Wajda, shows young people who, although not in direct contact with the enemy is faced with death. It is a dishonorable death, because dying is not against the Germans, but in the dark and fetid canals. Saying that the characters die, do not betray much, since it is already in the introduction, the narrator says that this is the last hour of their lives. For this film Wajda received a tie with Bergmanen Special Jury Award at Cannes (Bergman honored for seventh seal). Channel started called mainstream art Polish Film School - a trend which refers to the Italian neo-realism. Conflicts and tragedies of ordinary people, the war is shown from the perspective of losing formation, sparing use of lighting are the hallmarks of both the Canal neorealistycznych and movies. On the set of the film for the first time they met Stanislaw Mikulski and Emil Karewicz, known later from the show rate larger than life.

second Ashes and Diamonds (1958), dir. Andrzej Wajda
Another success of the festival, this time in Venice and another film that makes Polish cinema has become known and respected in the world. The film is about what he looked like a breakthrough period in Polish history, that is, the last days of the war and the first days of peace. Is Germany's defeat was a cause for celebration, whether people feel satisfaction when, or wondered about the sense of just ending the war, which claimed many innocent victims? Socialism, communism, patriotism - which of these ideologies to win the war, Poland? In contrast to Canal, where there was no one main character in the film Ashes and Diamonds the foreground is a young man, played by Zbigniew Cybulski. The film of great artistic value, full of metaphors and symbols (ie, glass-candles, "dance of death" in the final). Without a doubt the most outstanding film by Wajda.

third Train (1959), dir. George Kawalerowicz
In the lexicon 100 thriller author Raphael Syska found a place for a Polish film. This movie is a train that Polish films of all elements of the thriller "best use of (felony, enclosed space), and was one of the most interesting, outstanding Polish films. Heroes are coming train to the sea, probably on vacation, to relax and forget about your problems, but before they get to become a witness to the disturbing events, culminating in an attempt to lynch the murderer. Lucy and Leon Niemczyk Winnick in the roles of train passengers who are hiding a secret. The film also have an exceptional cast (Szmigielówna, Cybulski), but deserves credit primarily Lucy Winnick, the then wife of the director. Insightful psychological portraits of the passengers, people who are lonely and looking for adventure, and a critical time "encouraged" by the community behave stupidly and brutally.

fourth Ogniomistrz Kaleń (1961), dir. Ewa and Czeslaw Petelscy
After the Nazi occupation, Polish troops had to contend with Ukrainian bandits who, in south-eastern Poland, carried out the gruesome murder of Polish civilians and soldiers. The title is an artillery sergeant, like a missile with a missile launcher, thrown into a vortex of dramatic events. Interesting movie with a good role Wieslaw naked. The brutal torture and execution, daring escapes, and fierce battles, and the sequence in a minefield - it's all you can see in this film. What about the fact that the propaganda, since a great watch.

fifth Knife in the Water (1962), dir. Roman Polanski
I find it hard to tell what this film is such that it appreciated Oscar nomination, because I do not know what this movie is a better example than Train Kawalerowicz. But it sure is better than eight and a half Fellini, which lost the Oscar competition. Knife in the Water is a film without a doubt good, because it failed to intrigue viewers despite a very modest form. With a choice of three actors and the boat can do a lot of very different films: comedy, drama, adventure, such as Australia and by such means was carried out bloody thriller Dead Calm ( Dead Calm, 1989). Watching the Knife in the Water do not know which direction to go shares, the title tends to indicate a knife thriller genre, and the presence of two men and one woman quite clearly shows what this situation could lead to. You can not run away from confrontation, it is the only water around. In my opinion drawback of the film is average acting. The film saves the script, at which he worked in addition to Polanski, Jerzy Skolimowski - in the scenario presented to highlight interesting male characters and suspenseful relationship between them.

sixth Where is the General (1963), dir. Tadeusz Chmielewski
war with Germany and the Polish-Soviet friendship shown by the amusing relationship between Polish and Russian. Vital roles of George and Elizabeth Turk Czyżewska, good humor. Clumsy Polish soldier at war's end made a heroic act - take prisoner German general. And it does so by accident is another matter. Because even as the Poles do not think this to be the hero and so it will be. Writer and director in one person showed up in this movie not only an intelligent sense of humor, but also the courage to show the war is fun.

Westerplatte 7th (1967), dir. Stanislaw Rozewicz
film shows a turning point in Polish history, he was on a peninsula called Gdansk Westerplatte first shots of World War II. Ever since the Nazis came to we all sensed the power that comes to the war. In September 1939, at the end of the moment has come, but probably no one was at the ready. Despite this, the soldiers stationed at the ammunition depot at Westerplatte fiercely defend themselves against enemy attack. Commanders ask themselves: is it worth the fight, when the chances of winning are slim? And on the seventh day of the German officer asks the Polish Major: whether it was worth it so long to defend themselves? Major Sucharski not answer, as it still does not know her. In no other Polish film is not so good battle scenes.

8th Our Folks (1967), dir. Sylvester Chęciński
In areas of post-war Polish unfolds another war, this time between two families: Pawlaków and Kargulów. Best Screenplay Andrew Mularczyk, great dialogue and excellent acting. Waclaw Kowalski, and Ladislas Hańcza characters brilliantly played by warring neighbors, but the second plan was also well-planted. The perfect film to improve the humor, and by the way, you can also think about that sometimes just need to lead to an argument that will last for years. The extraordinary success of the film meant that formed a continuation of adventures and Kargulów Pawlaków. Although it emerged in the intervening period, allowing for a better scenario, however, think both There is strong (1974) and Love it or leave (1977) were not as funny as the first part.
9th How Dirty Dozen (1969), dir. Tadeusz Chmielewski
war comedy mocking stereotypes about the British, Italians and other nations. Consisting of three parts ( Ucieczka , Za bronią , Wśród swoich ), przez co można określić film mianem miniserialu. Film zrealizowany jest z dużym rozmachem, akcja rozgrywa się w różnych krajach, a bohaterowie posługują się różnymi językami. To humorystyczna opowieść o bohaterstwie polskich żołnierzy podczas II wojny światowej. Znakomity Marian Kociniak w roli pomysłowego Franka Dolasa - szeregowca, który chciałby zasłynąć bohaterskimi czynami, a zamiast tego przeżywa niezwykle zabawne przygody.  Mnóstwo świetnych,  mistrzowsko zagranych scen, że wspomnę chociażby a funny scene with Emile Karewicz as Gestapo. Tadeusz Chmielewski not the first nor the last time proved that he is a master of comedy.

10th I do not like Mondays (1971), dir. Tadeusz Chmielewski
In contrast to the previous films Chmielewski, there is no one main character. We are seeing a lot of people who are experiencing a fun and unfortunate adventures in Warsaw. As the title suggests the reason for their failure is Monday - the worst day of the week, when people are trying to rest after the weekend to return to routine duties. Is it possible to been missing one day all the luck? Will Tuesday be able to fix the mistakes of the previous day? The plot is incoherent and has the impression that it was only a pretext for a series of gags, but the comedy should not be a disadvantage. The more that the authors of the script in a funny and intelligently portrayed different backgrounds and professions.

11th Deluge (1974), dir. Jerzy Hoffman
Set in the era of the Swedish invasion of Poland in the seventeenth century, the story of love, heroism, betrayal and redemption wines. Andrew Kmita, charismatic and brave hero, unknowingly allowed betrayal swearing allegiance Radzivills but rehabilitates is showing courage on the battlefield, serving the country, earning the recognition of his countrymen and love women. Heroic adventure story based on the excellent script (!) Henryk Sienkiewicz, not devoid of ironic humor, but also full of dramatic situations, with many memorable scenes, including scenes of battles and action (eg, characteristic of cinema "cloak and dagger" scene Kmita a duel between Michael Pan Michael). And although Daniel Olbrychski played many other roles, he never came out better than in the role Kmita.

12th Brunet Evening season (1976), dir. Stanislaw Bareja
Comedy with criminal intrigue in which Krzysztof Kowalewski by Wieslaw Gołas solve the riddle of the mysterious crime. Full of irony and subtext mockery of PRL reality. Not without its absurd tale combines comedy thriller. To further highlight the absurdities of contemporary reality Bareja introduced contrary to the logic of the solution criminal intrigue - a red hat as a key to solving the mystery of the murder. And the key to success with the public mood is accessible for viewers who do not remember those times. The film is also remembered Theme Music - Gypsy song autumn by Anna Jantar.

13th The silence of the night (1978), dir. Tadeusz Chmielewski
Specialist comedy, this time he took up a thriller and coped very well. The hero of this tale, played out in the 20s around the holidays Christmas is the commissioner of police who are investigating the brutal murder. An important element of the scenario is the relationship with the teenage son of the Commissioner, which leads to a surprising climax. In the final battle will be fought with the perpetrator of the crime, and before that is interesting and suspenseful story is not devoid of psychology and reflection. A film about a disagreement between the generations, with complex relationships between people, with violence and aggression as how to deal with problems and the difficult quest, which turns out to be an attempt to character and strength. Gloomy, depressed and pessimistic crime drama. His title is not only mean nocturnal silence, during which the killer acts, but also suggests that the action takes place over the Christmas period.

14th Vabank (1981), dir. Machulski
Comedy Crime in retro style, which ragtime'owa composition and a scenario full of scams and intrigue reminiscent of a pastiche of gangster movies Sting in 1973. Light, relaxing atmosphere, witty dialogue, the characters played with feeling and precision-constructed plot - is undoubtedly one of the best directorial debuts in the history of Polish cinema. Amusing movie at a decent level. Well shown on the screen atmosphere of 1930, when the German attack niespodziewający Poles are the most feared thieves, con men, thugs. While watching this movie is hard to be bored. The second part Fri Vabank II or riposte also is successful and provides a similar experience, but not surprising as the original.

15th Seksmisja (1983), dir. Machulski
This sci-fi comedy stands out above all the originality - there is no other film. Humor is here so a lot that this film Vabank film seems rather criminal, not a comedy. Jerzy Stuhr and checked Olgierd Lukaszewicz great in comedic roles as writer and director in one person surprised viewers masterful dialogue and a brilliant and absurd satire of totalitarianism and addressing the issues of feminism. In a world where more men came to power and certainly many people wonder how much the world would be changed if the woman sat key positions.

16th Deserters CK (1985), dir. Janusz Majewski
Polish-Hungarian co-production tells the soldiers the Imperial and Royal Army, or the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The film clearly divided into two parts. The first takes place in the garrison where the soldiers of many nationalities (including the Poles and Hungarians) are forced to endure the hard discipline of the Austrian commanders, including Oberleutnant (Lieutenant) von Nogaya. The second part takes place and "at liberty", after several soldiers defect. Marek Kondrat in the role of private and resourceful Polish Wojciech Pokora as absolute służbisty create interesting and funny characters, whose behavior is difficult to predict. The plot is ingenious and the characters are expressive and compelling. Packed with great dialogue script, a large dose of humor and good acting, even in episodes (such as Mariusz Dmochowski General).

17th Football poker (1988), dir. Janusz Zaorski
It's probably the best film about football without any division of the Polish and foreign. Could football league games, match-fixing and corruption among judges and members of the football. Soccer environment shown with a pinch of salt but there's also some truth. Subject matter is universal and valid, it is still difficult to find suitable methods for fighting corruption, so this problem has not disappeared. Perhaps at such world events as World Cup soccer corruption is not present because of the risk of an international scandal, but the league certainly has not been abolished. As for the movie Zaorski is distinguished by collating team acting. It is viewed as having taken subjects always present not only in Poland but throughout the world.

18th Dogs (1992), dir. Wladyslaw Pasikowski
often hear feedback like "I do not watch Polish films, because they are only the vulgarity." Such criticism of Polish films certainly helped Pasikowski movies and the fact that the dialogues in the foreign films are often censored (reader does not read profanity), which suggests that foreign movies are more benign in terms of language. Dogs contemporary Polish reality show, and many are just one profanity, insignificant part of this reality. More important is here played by Boguslaw Linda protagonist, Franz Maurer, character ambiguous and psychologically credible, and his complicated conflict with an old friend, played by Mark Kondrat. Strongly influencing the viewer's ambitious but controversial film. Sequel to this movie, Dogs II: The Last Blood , is more brutal and more like an American action movies. Despite this, or maybe just because I think this sequel for the successful production, although obviously not comparable with the predecessor.

19th Debt (1999), dir. Krzysztof Krauze
At a time when Polish film directors fled as far as from contemporary reality Krzysztof Krauze surprised critics and audiences for the film a very real and disturbing. Debt this warning - be careful who you do business is because mindless actions for profit can lead to decline and social degradation. Insightful psychological portraits and evocative acting Andrew Chyry here are equally important and worthy of attention, which is based on factual scenario. This is undoubtedly one of the most ambitious films in Poland last two decades. It is difficult to interest viewers in history, whose end is known and commented on by the press and media. However, thanks to efficient direction and przekonującemu to acting this movie keeps you in great tension and forces you to think and reflect on the concepts of capitalism and social injustice.

20th Tomorrow's Weather (2003), dir. Jerzy Stuhr
comedy drama to be intelligent and funny comments on Polish reality. There are interesting observations Polish everyday that are playing, but also thought-provoking. Some people are hard to understand, but the fact is, however, that such persons are living next to us, for example young people who work for money participate in risky programs like the reality show immoral, or manufacturers who produce these programs. And even worse is that these programs are successful cash, which suggests that many people watching them. Fortunately, however Tomorrow's Weather also a film about other interesting and equally true personalities. First of all, a man who after leaving the monastery is trying to adapt to an unknown reality and trying to understand their children. There are also policy - Andrzej Chyra as a candidate for deputy. Jerzy Stuhr turns out to be not only an experienced actor, but also a gifted director, able to effectively combine comedy with drama. One of the best Polish films of last decade.

Epilogue

While many films which were released this statement was considered remarkable that there are a group of "masterpieces" that are not to my liking. Disappointed me, for example, films by Andrzej Munk: Eroica (1957), Bad Luck (1960) and Passenger (1963) - the latter completed after the death of the director.
the films of Andrzej Wajda the ones I liked I could mention on the fingers of one hand, which is a bad result as viewed about 15 films this artist. In addition to the above-discussed movies, and Channel Ashes and Diamonds, Wajda's best films to include: Hunting Flies (1969) and Promised Land (1974). Krzysztof Zanussi
Creativity does not know too well, but the newer production Fri Persona non grata (2005) I think it is smart and ambitious.
with Krzysztof Kieslowski's Polish films I can still recall most Decalogue 1 (1988), a grim morality tale that excessive faith in the possibilities of electronic devices can be fatal. Interesting movie, but the dismal climate of discouraged me to watch the next part of this miniseries. Without a doubt

Polish super successful are based on historical literature. Despite the flaws of these films are made with the idea and flair and are elaborated in visual terms. In addition to the above-discussed Flood, which in its genre is undoubtedly a masterpiece of the better blockbuster film adaptations include: Knights (1960) Alexander Ford, Pharaoh (1966) and George Kawalerowicz Volodyovski (1969) by Jerzy Hoffman. The subsequent historical films deserves credit for Squadron (1992) Machulski's where the uprising in 1863 is shown from the viewpoint of the Russian cavalry.

In Poland, from time to time formed a good series, especially in the initial phase of the Polish Television. I liked the two episodes of the series rate greater than the force (1967-68) - Iron Cross and brilliant plan Colonel Kraft. Interestingly, there were also two series Wiesław Gołas: Owl on the trail of Captain (1965) and Way (1973) - the best episodes of the series in turn: quiet little room and passenger with a knife in his pocket .

sometimes formed Polish films 'unique', the films of the species that do not have a rich tradition in Poland, as the western wolf echoes (1968), adventure In Desert and Wilderness (1973) and science fiction films, showing pessimistic vision of the future: War of the Worlds - the next century (1981) and O-bi, O-ba: The End of Civilization (1984). It is worth to highlight a brief visual masterpiece Fri Department (2002), which is proof that even in such a small form can be summed up many thoughts and issues relating to mysticism and philosophy, and reflections on life and death.
